hello everyone, I am upgrading my dust collector. I am looking at a Jet JCDC 1.5hp cyclone or a Lugana 1.5hp cyclone. I am looking for any comments or reviews on either product. I want to stay with the 110 volt collector with 1 micron or less filtration.

thanks jim

Jraysmitty,

I have no experience with either unit but did find some reviews. A Youtube video review for the Jet is at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZseZOQ-c00

A couple of LJ reviews of the Laguna unit are at

http://lumberjocks.com/reviews/7530

http://lumberjocks.com/reviews/5978

I would lean toward the Jet since it offers a couple of gallons of added chip collection and, based on the Youtube review, seems to be a well thought out design. It also comes with a remote which I find extremely useful. I am not sure whether the Laguna includes the remote. I would appreciate the viewing window in the Jet’s dust collection barrel. It is best to empty the dust collection bin before it overflows and large debris enters the filter.

Doesn’t the the Jet have a 20 gallon bin and the Laguna a 32?

Check out the ClearView Line. We have extensively tested them, https://www.clearvuecyclones.com/

Who is “we”?

I’m actually very interested in them myself. I may have the ability to vent outside so I can save what looks like >$700 on filters. I don’t see a lot of specs on the blower though. I see it’s 5 HP, so clearly 220v? How many amps? dB?

Be sure that you are comparing the new Jet to the new Laguna line. The link that Rob provided is the current product line. The reviews that JBrow linked to are to Laguna’s old products.

Clear Vue is great (I had one for 5 years) but they do not have a 110V machine and they cost a lot more than the machines that you are looking at.

Rob,

Clear Vue is a 5 HP 220V motor and pulls about 16amps (they suggest a 30amp circuit), and in my shop the db rating was about 90.

Jraysmitty,

Rob s is correct, Lugana offers a 1.5 hp cyclone dust collector with a 32 gallon drum. However, they apparently also seem to offer one with an 18 gallon collection drum.

But at 18, 20, or 32 gallons, frequent emptying the dust drum is required. As pmayer implicitly points out, before relying on the review links I posted, ensuring the model you are considering is the subject of the these posts is, of course, critical.

Rob s

The CV1800 typically offers a 15”impeller and the CVMax offers a 16” impeller. When I purchased the CV1800 bundle, they upgraded the impeller to 16”, if I remember correctly. The Clearvue fan performance curve was posted a few years ago in a thread on their forum, along with some comments by Bill Pentz.

I was under the impression that these were going away and being replaced by the new line.

which, now that I think about it, might make now a good time to get a good deal on the outgoing models…
