Its time I finally pull the trigger and do it; I’ve been lurking, reading, saving, comparing and using my Delta midi and the time has come to finally jump into the deep end! I want to buy a 1642 after MUCH back and forth.
Heres my question; Is one online retailer better than another? I found differences of several hundred bucks for what appears to be the same machine.

Could some of you shed some light on this for me please?

Thx!

Shop for the best final price (including taxes and shipping) and availability. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples … some sellers include optional components as part of the base price, while others do not.

Warranty support on a new tool rests with the manufacturer regardless of who you buy from.

When I bought my new lathe last year, the best deal I found was on Amazon. There were other sellers that had about the same price, but didn’t include some of the optional items Amazon included.

Jet will probably have 15% off for Black Friday.

I bought my Jet 16X42 last year at black friday. 15% off. No regrets. Seems like the price is controlled by jet, and when jet runs a sale, they all have the same price. I watched this lathe and others too for almost a year. There had been one other 15% off sale around the time when I started looking, And I have not seen a deal better than 15% off ever.
The only difference is what Gerry mentioned. Buy from one of several online stores and you will get free shipping and no taxes. I got impatient and bought from a local store. Had to pay the sales tax.

You should also consider the Jet 1640EVS, which is the updated version of the 1642. I bought mine about 3 months ago and have been very pleased with it.

WHOA!! I was under the (obviously wrong) assumption that the 1642 WAS the newest one!?
Well crud…
Thanks, now I have to start re-researching!

LOL, the 1642 was introduced about 8 or 9 years ago. Jet listened to the complaints they were hearing about it and came out with the 1640 back in (I think) March of this year.

Because it’s so new, you won’t find a lot of reviews on it. I’ve used both the 1642 and my 1640 and I’m really glad I opted for the updated version.

Also, the 1642 will probably go on sale for Black Friday, but I doubt that the 1640 will, again, because it’s so new.

Good luck.

Since I can’t find out much about it, what are the BIG differences?

Just saw my 1st balck friday add. Jet will be 15% and powermatic will be 10% off. Also some select jet air filters will be 20% off. Email from klingspor. Had the jet 16×40evs listed for $2499.99 today. If math is right the 15% off will make it around $2125.00. I did not look at the 16×42 evs. Also see thst jet has an 18×40dvr, pricey at $3299.
