Topic tags/keywords: tip sandpaper scrap storage gloat cabinet thrift find

Just thought I would show off my new sandpaper and scrap storage cabinet..

A couple weeks back we got a call from a friend letting us know that one of the local thrift stores had a huge paper storage rack laying out front. We went by to take a look because my girlfriend has invitation and card business and she’s been looking for a way to store her current projects while she’s not working on them. Well, we get down there and they’ve got two of these things, and their huge! They’ve gota weigh sixty or seventy pounds each. One side is for standard paper, and one side is for legal paper. It was perfect for her, and when they told us it was $15 for both, we said we’d take them.

Now, only one would fit in her room, so I figured I put the other out back somewhere until I could figure out what to do with it. That’s when she suggested I use it to store all my sandpaper. What a genius idea! I was planning on building a sandpaper storage cabinet liked I’d seen on here, but this would work just as good. Once I got it in place and put all my sandpaper in there, I realized I had a ton of space leftover, especially on the legal paper side. That’s when I realized I had a whole box of smalls scraps that would fit perfect and help me keep them organized by species. Even after that, I still have room to grow, plus I made the top my new battery charging area. Not too bad for $7.50…

Here are a few pictures, click on them to see larger versions. Thanks for looking!

Great score!
That cabinet is now far more useful than storing such mundane items as PAPER!

Thanks for the great idea. I have seen these around and never thought about my sand paper. Will have to keep my eyes open for one now.

Man, and I thought I was cheap! It’s surprising what you find and put to good use.
