I am going to be setting up an industrial multi use shop in a 10,000- 12,000 sq ft building, the shop will be fully out fitted with industrial machines- mostly used ($70,000- $90,000 tool budget).

My problem is that out of all the industrial machines that I have used I have liked them all! So I am finding it hard to be objective when looking at used tools.

I want to know what are the top brands and for what tools as well as say brand X makes the best shaper and they don’t cost a too much. Or if any are easier to maintain.

As for table saws… to keep insurance low and of course for the safety aspect I am going with the Saw Stop Industrial table saws. However I will be using a normal panel saw.

Thanks in advance for any help.

SCM is at the top of my list- but I want to make sure I can’t get the same quality or better for the same or cheaper price.

Rick, thanks for the response. The nature of the business is to set up a shop so that 8-10 professional woodworkers can run their business from it. The members will each pay a monthly membership fee similar to a fitness club membership. I would be maintaining all the tools and paying the bills. The only thing they would need to worry about is selling what they make and paying the monthly fee.

So the machines would have to suit a variety of people making custom furniture. Also have to have enough machines so that one guy isn’t waiting hours for the other to finish using a certain machine.

I have been spending lots of time on exfactory. That is why I started this post, I was looking on exfactory and the prices are all over the place. I need someone who can list the top ten brands in industrial tools. Or someone to say- ‘buy the SCM shaper it is far better than the others’ or ‘the Altendorf sliding panel saw is cheaper than the SCM but built by the same factory’ etc.

Or if someone is in the know and has the time- I can provide a list and they can scan the exfactory site and what ever other sites they wish and choose the machines they think would best suit my needs!

Have your say...
