This company appears to still be selling the old generic 15” Chinese/Taiwan planers that so many other companies were selling 10-15 years ago. I’ve heard generally good things about these performance of this line of generic planers, but does anyone have any experience with the particular ones from JTS?

I’ve also heard mixed results as for parts interchangeability between these generic planers. I’d like to add a byrd head someday and I’m not sure which model might fit this planer.

No experience with that JTS model but I do have an old Sunhill that looks very similar and it has been upgraded to the Byrd head. The one below is not mine but it looks like the same model.

Bear in mind that insert heads generally require extra horsepower and in the case of my planer, the 3HP motor will sometimes stall if I try to take 1/16” off a 14” wide, hard maple board. That JTS model is severely under-powered for a 15” insert head.
