I regularly scan craigslist for free wood listings and recently came upon one for Pecan Wood logs from a freshly cut Pecan tree. I made arrangements to go check it out and really liked the wood. Brought my chainsaw over the weekend and there were still three considerable size logs left. So I started cutting discs with my chainsaw but the damn thing broke and I couldn’t complete my cut.

I was wondering if someone with a good chainsaw would like to team up with me in harvesting some slices? I am willing to pay for gas for their chainsaw. It is located on Gulf Boulevard in Pinellas County.

It is really beautiful wood and I would hate to see it go to the dump. The slices can be made into really beautiful live edge side tables.

I will drive by the place after work and will update if it is still there. If you are interested, either send me a message or feel free to reply here.

Thanks!

Cutting “cookies” is generally unproductive in the long run because they tend to split while drying.

Good luck with your endeavor.

Thank you Herb!

I agree that cookies split while drying, but I thought what the heck it is free wood. The one I started cutting was about 4” thinking that I could get a 3” thick piece after planing and sanding.

I haven’t seen as many Pecan trees here in FL as I have in the midwest when I lived there, so I thought people would be interested.

As usual I’m late. Sorry I’d have liked to have some.

Ingjr,

No problem. I am late in posting back here too. I went back to the site a couple days after my original post and wood was gone. I would have loved to get some.

Have your say...
