Topic tags/keywords: plane refurbishing

Hey everybody,
All is going well with the type 3 602 that I am cleaning, I just finished putting paste wax on the tote and knob, which lifted off a lot of dirt. And what to my surprise did I find, there is a BEAUTIFUL sapwood line on the tote and the tote has 90% or more lacquer on it! The knob however, is in less good shape, it has little of the original lacquer left. I couldn’t manage to photograph it, but when the sun hits the knob just right, you can see that it has a bit of a curly figure to it! Here are the pictures.
Thanks again to everyone who has been helping me on this,
Benjamin

Great stuff and good luck Benjamin.
I just gotta ask out of sheer jealousy – where the heck did you find this thing?

I found it at the Habitat for Humanity Restore that I volunteer at. I’m probably going to do a cash donation or throw my coworkers a party sometime and play it off as an off the cuff thing for them, I know that they were none the wiser when they priced it but I still feel like I owe them something, whether they know why or not!

Wow. Well that would be a nice thing to do for the store. I go to my local Habitat stores every now and then but haven’t found anything for my shop. You’ve inspired me to get back over there!

Looks good and will fit right in with what you are trying to do with that 602. They show the age and wear, but without being dirty and will be perfectly usable. Nice job.

That praise was meant for both you and DonW by the way, both of you have been equally helpful with this!
