I am still in my quest for the best sander, but looking to buy within the next week. I started to wonder if an edge sander would be better. It seems like an edge sander could do everything a belt/disc could do and more. Is there something I am missing? Anyone with a edge sander have things they can’t do that a belt disc can do or vice versa? Any input would be great. I am noticing there is not a big price difference between the two, so not really a financial drawback.

Size for your shop could be an issue, more money for the bigger belts, and usually the Disc/Belt is a smaller more compact machine…

I used one in my shop for a couple weeks, it now has a home down the road at a friend’s place.

I am more comfortable with the combo machine, personally.

Mine is a General International, has a DC system in the enclosed base.

Good luck!
