I’m not looking for anything fancy, just a better source than the big box chains. I’m in northern Palm Beach County, which means I can go as far as Okeechobee, Stuart, Fort Lauderdale, etc. but would prefer not to have to drive down to Miami (can be a 1.5 hour drive each way, even on weekends). Primarily right now I’m looking for better quality plywood and poplar. Pretty basic stuff, just want something better than what HD or Lowe’s sells.

Rob, ask your local cabinet makers where they get their stock. Maybe one would be willing to add your needs to one of their orders. My experience has been that most wood workers are willing to help other wood workers. HTH

I would have sent you to Shell Lumber in Coconut Grove, but that is a little far to drive for you, but they have an excellent lumber yard hard woods to every type of plywood and hundreds of molding styles , and an excellent hardware store.
If you ever get down there make a quick stop and look them over (2733 SW 27th Ave. off US1 in Coconut Grove). My favorite store and I live in the Keys so it is not close to me either. As Art said check with local wood shops in your area, I did the same and they almost will always let you add on to orders they place with suppliers (money up front).

Amazon sells and ships baltic birch? At a reasonable price? I had no idea!

When I lived in Ft Lauderdale I was closer to Shell but had no shop space. Now I have a shop but am too far from Shell to have it be a viable choice.

And, the further away from Miami I move the less I have to go back there (thankfully).

reasonable is a relative thing. they actually ship from Woodcraft. I am 4 to 6 hours from any source. So for me Amazon or directly from woodcraft.com is how I usually get mine.

That’s good to know Randy. I looked it up. I think I may have a line on a local spot afterall, just need to get over there and check it out. Looks like they have, or can get, a pretty good selection.
