Finally got serious about getting my Bosch 4000 table saw properly set-up. Ended up purchasing the A-Line-It dial gauge alignment tool. Found the saw blade alignment was nearly .008 out. Got the blade aligned to within .0001. As close as I would ever expect to get it. Next moved on to aligning the fence. As I understand the alignment process, I put my gauge in the right miter track and slid the fence to the left until the gauge feeler tip comes in contact with the fence, locked the fence. Then loosened the two hex head screws used to align the fence then moved the dial gauge to the oufeed end of fence, adjusting the run out to .0003” (slight opening of fence away from saw blade and tightened down the two hex head screws. On re-checking the fence alignment, I released the fence lock down level moved the fence and locked it down, took measurements in-feed vs outfeed side and found the alignment setting did not hold. The fence had drifted back toward the saw blade. I checked the hex screws and they were as tight as I would want without concern about stripping them. As I was checking the measurements, I found light pressure 2-3lbs against the outfeed side of the fence actually shifted the fence further out of alignment. I will take another run at this tomorrow after I have had time to rethink the process. I thought I would go ahead and ask if anyone has any suggestions on my alignment problem? Thanks, Dalec |
