I made these two bench dogs this weekend from a red oak dowel and some ash for the springs:

Here’s a shot of gluing on the springs:

I split the spring pieces before planing to size, so the grain is nicely parallel. They fit in a chiseled-out recess in the dogs. The faces are angled to keep things flat against the workbench under tension.

I also drilled holes in the workbench top to use holdfasts:

Nice Allen! Grammercy holdfasts, jorgy spring clamps, LV 51, I had to look in my shop to see if you had snuck in.
