I’m planning on buying some rough eastern red cedar in a few days and was wondering what would be a fair price to pay for it. the guy that’s sawing it will tell me to pay what its worth. I’m getting 50 – 2×6x8’s and 25- 1×6x8;s. the lumber will be mixed. some no.1 and some no.2. I’m just taking whatever he saws up. I know its a hard question but I have no idea what the price should be. and I figure it will be at lest 15% to 20% loss or waste. this fellow just saws whatever he gets and doesn’t do it for a living, just a hobby I guess you could say. Any ideas what to pay? I don’t want to low ball it yet don’t want to screw myself either
thanks in advance.

1×4x8 cedar is selling for 2.00 a board foot near me. That price seems high to me for cedar though. I have been in the position where the sawyer said pay me whats it worth and it never works out. he has to be the one to set the price as he is the seller. What did you have in mind for prices?
