Topic tags/keywords: rosewood question

Hey everybody,
I’m looking for a piece of Bois de Rose (Dalbergia maritima) thick enough to make a violin fingerboard out of. I bought a guitar fingerboard but it is too thin. The thickness needs to be at least 1/2 an inch, at least 11 inches long, and at least 1 3/4 inches wide. If someone has this, I would be willing to pay quite a lot for it; as this is for the construction of my dream violin, which I plan to outlive me long after I’m gone!
Thanks,
Benjamin

theres a 100$ minimum on orders, I don’t need 100 dollars worth of wood, all I need is the Bois de Rose :(

Could you resell some to your instrument making buddies?

my hope was that someone on the forum would notice this and include it in one of their bulk purchases and I could pay them for buying it for me and shipping it too.

These folks have some: http://www.exoticwood.biz/boisderose.htm. It’s not the dimensions you need, but not too far off. If they’re cutting it into pen blanks, there’s no reason why you couldn’t talk them out of doing that for just one piece for you.
