Topic tags/keywords: contest

I am looking for 4 judges to judge my new door contest. I would like to have 2 female judges and 2 male judges, for perspective purposes, as well as fair judging. The entries will be from now until July 18th, and then I will need a dedicated group to choose a winner through PM. You will be judging doors by the means of style, technique, skill, detail, design, etc. I will post the winner when all the judges have given their votes. The winner will receive a makita door making kit. Here is the contest: http://lumberjocks.com/topics/18059 Please PM me your interest in judging this contest. Without judges, this contest could be a bust.
Thanks

I am considering changing the judging. I have had a good response from the Gents to judge, but 0 responses from the woman. What I’m thinking is that maybe I should have an unlimited number of judges. Those who want to vote would just PM me their choice. I would count up all the votes and the winner will the be the one with the most votes.
Anyhow, I haven’t had any entries either and will be bummed if only one person enters. I guess it may have been a bad time to start a contest. LOL.

Please don’t consider this criticism. I greatly appreciate your efforts to have a door contest but, let me comment that I find judging via pictures to be quite frustrating. I’ve judged contests where I could physically examine the piece and closely inspect the joints, finish, etc. When judging via pictures, you are limited to judging based on what the pictures look like. In some regards, you are judging how well the contestant took the pictures.

I don’t want to discourage you but I offer this as an explanation as to why I personally don’t want to judge via pictures.

Rich you maybe right but would you travel around the world to judge we have members all over unless the contest is in one area only.

There’s no good answer. To be practical we almost have to judge via pictures.

A thought for the future – - perhaps, if the contest is regarding a relatively small item, you could use pictures to narrow the field down to the top 10 (or whatever) and have those items shipped to a common location for final judging. Of course, that requires the judges to be relatively close to that common location.

I know there is extra expense and hassle. I’m just serving this up as an idea for consideration.

Thank you for your efforts to make this contest happen.

How about asking Martin if you can post the pics here and allow the members the vote? Like it is done for a LJ’s contest. I think Martin will allow it…but that would alleviate the problem of having too few judges and perspectives.

All you have to do is post the project and tag it with a word like “Kieth’s door contest”.
