Topic tags/keywords: contest door

Alrighty folks, I’ve come up with the contest I want to do, and I have a cool prize. First off, I want to say that it’s not easy coming up with a contest for this site, and as it goes, I won’t go into a rant like I always do about it. LOL. This contest is ALL about woodworking, so I shouldn’t hear to much bickering and complaining. I’d at least appreciate that. LOL

Here are the rules:

You are to build a door any way you know how. You can use any tool you see fit. I think that you can do this contest even with a handsaw, so if you think that not everyone can do it, then I’m not sure what to think about that. You can build any door you’d like, from fairy doors to Barn doors. It doesn’t matter, as I feel that the methods are similar enough.

The construction of the door must be photographed and added to your entry. Photos should be taken of the front and back of the door as well. Please get as many close up shots of the joinery as possible.

If you haven’t built a door before that is even better. Because now you have the push to get it done. I personally have written a blog on how to make a door, and I’ve read one by Patron. I’m pretty sure there are a dozen other members here that have written a how to on making a door. DO NOT feel ashamed or afraid to ask. If you need help building your entry ASK. Post a blog or forum topic asking for assistance. This way you gain skill and knowledge during the challenge. I will personally assist you the best I can.

But lets remember what’s being judged:

If you can add carvings, marquetry, parquetry, mouldings, etc, it gives more to your effort, and says you’re in it to win it.

So bring it on, lets see your door. You are given 2 months to complete this project. You DO NOT need to have a finish on this project for it to be complete.

I will be seeking a panel of judges. So if you are interested in judging this contest please PM me. The contest ends Sunday the 15th of August 2010 and is open to EVERY member of lumberjocks.

The Prize:
There is only one winner. The winner will recieve a brand new set of Makita door making bits. In the kit is a rail and stile bit and a raised panel bit. This set is still in it’s original packaging, and has never been used.

To enter simply build a door and enter it by adding it as a project and tagging it with “DOOR CONTEST 2010”
You can also enter your project here.

Goodluck to all who participates. If you fail to tag your project, please repost it with the tag. Again, please PM me if you would like to jugde. I am looking for 4 judges, 2 male, 2 female. Thanks

In this contest, is a door defined as a large door that one would use on a room or the front of a house or can the door be a small cabinet door?

I’m not sure if it matters what kind of door, or if it should matter, so long as it is a wooden door. You can make a fairy door, or a large entry door. To me a door is a door, and all doors are essentially constructed with similar methods. It’s what you do to the door that will set it apart from the others. Use your imagination.

I’ve also added to the original post, so please re-read the rules.

we can participate or not ,
same as always ,
he is giving the prize on his own ,
his way of letting us do something new .
besides just say hello , and well done .

Keith…if Grizz judges, will he be considered male or female? Especially if he wears his red dress…
By the way…are you wearing camo’s? I can’t see your picture

kolwdwrkr, Great idea and a great way to get activity on the site and friendly competition between LJers. I’d love to compete but I just don’t need another door right now and too many projects to work on. Thanks for taking the lead and getting something going.

Just thought I’d bump this back up into the public eye. Hopefully that is okay, as I may need to do it from time to time over the next 2 months.
