Hi Everyone!

My name is Jim and I have eight fir doors from Home Depot, they are beautiful.

They need to be stained so I’m looking around for information on how to do it???

There was this thread about it. But it looks like you already read that. Are these flat doors or Stile and Rail doors? Even the stile and rail doors these days are made from glued up solids with face veneers, somewhat thicker than most veneer, but still not solid VG fir.

Gel stains are fairly easy to get looking even but fir has it’s own issues with blotching so it would be hard to predict whethter you need a conditioner or not without trying one first.

Hi Jim,
We have VG Doug Fir doors in our house. Most of the flooring is VG fir and the trim also. We just used oil based urethane to finish them. Fir color’s up with age and light. Has red and orange and lighter colored yellow tones.
That’s the appeal for me, to stain it any color would ruin that look. We have been in the house 18+ years since we did the reno, and every time I’m away I get a good feeling returning to the colors of doug fir.
Get a piece of doug fir and try urethane on it and leave it out in the sun for a few hours and see if you like the look.

Just my HO

Thanks jb

Again, I want to say thanks!

Haven’t started yet, I will post a few pictures of the doors if I can figure out how to do it…
