Hello lady’s and Gents, I am going to break down and buy me a good dovetail saw. Since I’m close to Pittsboro I figure id just go buy one from the tool store over the Woodwrights school. They don’t list stuff on line but I was wondering if anyone ever bought from there. I would like to know if I could get a decent saw for under a hundred bucks. I know one of our more well know lumber jocks was there earlier this year fondling the dovetail saws, hopefully he didn’t buy them all. And my favorite super hero himself will be there this weekend so maybe I can get a picture with him :) just trying to get an idea of a price rang so ill know how many mason jars to dig up.

I know all of the “you gotta have the XXX saw” for cutting dove tails.
I really like the Japanese Dozuki saw.

Ed’s (the proprietor of the store) stock changes constantly, so it’s impossible to say. He does have a bench in the store with some wood, so you can try them. Prices vary greatly. When I was there, I was looking for a couple of full-size hand saws. Ed had a beautiful vintage Disston for around $150, but he also had some freshly sharpened no-names of the same vintage that cut just as well. I took home a rip and a crosscut for about the same price as the Disston. I will say that Ed’s supply of dovetail saws has been sparse every time I’ve been there.

You won’t find any bargains but you should find good quality tools. I’ve never bought anything there but I met Ed once at a swap meet and looked over his wares.
