Well, it looks like it is time to replace my trusty ole rubber air hose. The one that I have been using for the last year came from Lowes, and while it lasted longer than I expected, it now has so many leaks that it is time for a new one. I need one that is 50’ and budget friendly.

While we are at it, I have also decided to it would make my shop life easier by having a decent hose real. I have never owned a hose real, and honestly have no clue who or where to get one. I would prefer to buy the hose and hose real separately. My local HF has a steel unit for $17, which is the cheapest one that I have come across. Conversely, my local Tool Central has one for $175, which is way more than I want to spend.

What would you guys recommend for a good 50’ air hose and a decent air hose real?

I think the HF air hose reels are about as good of a real and hose to be had for the price. Northern Tool’s reel is not too bad either. I just purchased one of the yellow hybrid hoses from Lowes and like it, but got it on sale for $19.99, they’re back to $29.99.

I’ve had a HF hose reel outdoors for 7-8 years and it’s still doing very well.

I Initially I wanted a retractable hose reel, and figured that I would buy the hose and reel separately, but after reading a bunch of reviews it seems that the cheaper retractable reels, i.e.: under $60, seem to suffer from poor quality and don’t last very long.

So with that in mind, I think that I will make a run to HF and pick up their manual crank $17 unit. However, I still need to find a decent 50’ hose.

Would you guys suggest; rubber, PVC, hybrid? This hose will be used 5 days a week, but nothing too demanding.

I found this on Amazon for you.
Just a little expensive, but it must be a good one!
2 or 3 around the shop should be all you need. (Free shipping if you have Amazon Prime)

Flexilla hose. It is a little pricier, but it lasts a long time, is really flexible and not prone to kinking. Also it is bright day-glo green which I like so I can see it on the floor so that my old ass doesn’t trip and fall over it. You can buy just the hose, hose with quick disconnects or 50’ hose and reel together. Tractor Supply has the 50’ hose and reel for about $100; and Amazon has one for $83 for 50” hose and reel, or just the hose for $29 and change. I got mine at a contractor supply house here in OKC with quick connects already on it for about $30 +/-. Maybe too pricey since your OP said “budget”; but you will not be dissatisfied with this hose.
