I’ve spotted a New Powermatic 1 1/2 HP bandsaw motor on Craigs List. The seller is asking for $145. I have an old Jet 14” bandsaw that is 1 HP. Is it worth the upgrade for an extra 1/2 HP?

Sounds like a lot of money. The motor may be made in China making it questionable. I would probably offer $100 for it if I really wanted it; one hp is quite adequate for a 14” band saw.

I have pics. It is a 2015 motor made in taiwan, just like my Jet. The retail price on the motors are over $300. I just looked it up. I offered $120 and he said ok. Seems like a really good deal. Motors at Harbor Freight run more than that. I’m going to go look at it and probably buy it if it’s what he shows it is.
Dang it! It cut off the right side of the pic!

Me either… a lot of beans (more than I paid for my Delta 14” BS!!) for minimal gain. Spend your money on a good blade or two and proper machine setup (aka: Band Saw Clinic with Alex Snodgrass)

Cheers,
Brad
