Topic tags/keywords: killeen

I used to live in Augusta, GA and that was a deadwood area. I had to drive 2.5 hours to get good hardwood.

I now live in Killeen. I need to find some baltic birch 4/8 for my bookcase build.

I drove to Woodcraft in Austin today and they told me about a lumber yard near them but that is an hour drive on I35. I dont have a truck so I will have to find a way to get it to me.

I found Dakota hardwoods in Waco. They have a $300 min for free delivery. They close at 430 pm though so I would have to get off early to make it. They are only open M-F too.

I may be wrong, ( I was once :-( ) but I don’t think that you can get Baltic birch in 4’ x 8’ sheets. Somebody correct me if I am wrong since I am old and CRS sometimes. I thought the European ply came in 5’ x 5’ sheets.
Hmm, Augusta and Killeen huh? U.S. Army by any chance?

I was told by the Woodcraft store in Jacksonville, FL that I could get 4×8 sheets of baltic birch from them for $100/sheet.

I drove to Dakota Hardwoods in Waco today. If you blink you will miss it. They were closed.

I guess I will use the purebond stuff from Home Depot. IIRC poplar cores, made in the USA, and formaldehyde free.

I watch a video on youtube last night – 60 Minutes Lumber Liquidators. Yikes.

local wholesalers have been carrying 4×8 shhets of baltic birch for a year now. Alos local borgs have what weem to be lesser quality “shop birch” -methinks imported from the orient, that has the distinctive look of baltic birch, but flatness leaves something to be desired.

I only know of bb coming in 5×5.

Find a local cabinet maker and get to know them. They order all the time and probably can add a few sheets of whatever you need to their order.

Have your say...
