I have the opportunity to buy this for $200.

http://www.powermatic.com/us/en/p/pwbs-14cs-bandsaw-1-5hp-1ph-115-230v/1791216K

It’s obviously their entry level model, but it is a “Powermatic”, if that means anything.

Good deal?

Does anyone have any experience with this tool?

Negatives? Positives?

noone,

I would jump all over this deal if: the saw has not been abused, is in good condition, and the deal comes with all accessories. If in good shape, it will sell qucikly.

I do not own this bandsaw, but when I was shopping for a bandsaw, it was on my short list. I elected to go with a Grizzly 17” bandsaw instead. However, I do own the PM 66 table saw from the late 90’s, their floor model Hollow Chisel Mortiser, and a PM 8” jointer. These tools are, in my opinion, well made tools designed and built to last at least the lifetime of a hobbyist like me.

Here it is.

$200.

I drove 150 miles each way to pick this up. When I got there, there was a trailer in his driveway picking up a PM66 for $500, and some other Powermatic tools for cheap. The guy was moving and was selling everything cheap.

The guys there bought all his parallel clamps and wood clamps. I was able to get a couple of pairs of parallel clamps, and 6 big wood clamps plus about 30 board feet of 8/4 cherry for an additional 60 bucks. My full size SUV was full.

The band saw runs great.

Here is what it needs-

1. New belt- recommendations? Link belt?
2. The light switch is flaky. It is touchy the way it clicks on. How do I get it to work right? How do I clean it?
3. The fence holder brackets are bent. What’s the easiest way to straighten them? They have a hard rubber on them I don’t want to tear with pluses? Do I need to buy a vise?
4. New guide bearings are needed. Where do I buy these? Powermatic?
5. It needs a new air tube 5mm X 8mm. Where is this? Powermatic? Home Depot?
6. Cast iron top needs to be cleaned up. It’s sprayed down with WD40. I will try steel wool and then move into more abrasive methods of sandpaper if needed. Any other cleaning suggestions?

It also came with a mobile base.

It’s going to take a little TLC and some cleaning and tuning, but I think it was a fantastic buy and I’m quite happy.

Appreciate the feedback folks.

Man, I was wondering if you were able to get it today, Im so HAPPY for ya, this is a major score, its so nice looking, if you need a belt napa should carry that serpentine style. Cool, a light & a dust blower. I think your new bandsaw is better than my delta, yup, it is ;)

#2 try cleaning the connections & sometimes wd-40 can loosten a stickey toggle switch to they are $5 at the box store.

#3 If you dont have a vice you need one. I think better images are needed on this subject.

#4 there is a number on the bearings, you can search it & possibly get them off amazon. If they are salvageable try soaking them in oil, sometimes it goes a long way.

#5 napa or auto parts store

#6 I just cleaned a bandsaw top before I sold it, I use fine wet dry sandpaper 180 dry contact cemented on an orbital sander, then wax. You can try 0000 steel wool but It sucks, for me anyway. Actually, this is what I use to sand on cast iron tops but I dont know where to get it, I get them from work…

Thanks all. Thanks Mike.

I’ve got new bearings on the way from Amazon.

I fixed the light switch with the wd40.

I reset the existing belt so it was parallel to the two pulleys. It was a little cockeyed.

More questions-

Wheel tires – Do I have to buy the Powermstic brand? 3rd party suggestions? —-Edit—- I bought these-https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000H69UKI/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The air compressor unit on the motor. How much air should that be putting out? It feels like a soft whiff whiff whiff whiff. I don’t know if this is the right pressure since I have nothing to compare to. Is there any kind of maintenance I can do on that pump?

Thanks again for the valuable input.
