ok all i have two very old white pines in my yard that apper to be dieing my question is how do i go about making these tress into lumber i know i have to cut them down but im not sure if you can rent those big saws for doing that and how long do i stack and sticker it for.

I bet there is a portable sawmill guy near you. They probably charge about $.25 bft in your area. That is by far the easiest route (and you will get good lumber, they have experience). They can help you with your other questions too.
Contact your states DNR http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/index.html . They will have a list of sawmills. Your local forester can be very helpful too. Here is a short list of sawmills in your state (probably 25%) http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/um/tc_sawmill_drykiln_2006.pdf

rikkor, no problemo. That would be my suggestion to anyone anywhere, check with your Forestry Dept. (usually a part of the Agriculture Dept.) Most maintain a list of sawmills. I get many referrals from my local forester, people wanting logs sawn bring them to me.

why thanks i never thought to check thier ill look into it i just hateto see these trees go for fire wood or something they are the biggest pines ive ever seen in my area ones better then 3 feet in diamter and made it thru 3 forest fires in the last 15 years it sad to me that its dieing but i figuer what better use the to let it live on in funature
