I haven’t heard anything about a jointer. Is there really a huge market for a SS jointer? I know folks get injured by the jointer and it can be very dangerous, but how many jointer injuries really occur? It would be a fairly easy port of the tablesaw brake technology though – it’s another “blade” that is essentially spinning in the same direction as a tablesaw blade, and it could be stopped by smashing a brake into it without damaging the machine. The cutterhead would retract in a similar fashion to the tablesaw blade as well.

I know they had a bandsaw prototype…a video of that can be found on YouTube. Bandsaw injuries seem to be a little more common but I’m sure developing the bandsaw technology hasn’t been easy.

A quick search within their website gives this:

FAQ #19. Do you plan to offer other woodworking tools that include the SawStop safety system?

Yes. We are developing a complete line of SawStop woodworking tools. We will be complementing our cabinet and contractor saws with additional table saws and several other non-table saw products. You can find video demonstrations of two prototypes here although they won’t necessarily be the next products we release.”

And there are some videos here:

So, I wouldn’t hold my breath for it. I remember that, a few years ago, before the release of the original TS, they already had these prototypes on dislplay.

Honestly, If I had the money, and they had the products, I’d buy all “open blade” products they had available. I love working in the shop, but sometime you think “why the heck did I do that?” around my tools. And I think if we’re honest with ourselves we all think that from time to time. Not ALL the time, but it happens.

Anyone got a scar from a close call?
