I did try it at the Woodwoking in America convention. Granted, it was just a test drive, but I was impressed with it. The handle is very comfortable, and it cut very nicely. If anything, I think that the LV handle may actually be MORE comfortable than the LN. The main difference between it and the LN (which I own) is that back is made of a fiberglass/stainless steel powder/polymer binder. Heft, balance, and speed of cutting seem pretty close to me.

In general, I’ve found that LV tools tend to be less expensive than LN (not cheaper!). LV also seems to like to try new things, whereas LN sticks with tried and true.

Either one would be an excellent saw. I might well have bought the LV if I didn’t already own the LN.

I have one and love it. I have not used the LN, but the Veritas is a very nice saw. It cuts fast and feels great in the hand. I made the same choice you are contemplating about 6 months ago. For the price, I thought the Veritas was a winner, and I have not been disappointed. I really have no dislikes about the saw. I like the resin molded spine of the Veritas. I give them a lot of credit for their innovation and willingness to try new designs and materials in otherwise “traditional style” tools. It feels very solid constructed and shoud be around for a long time.

The Veritas is a great saw and I love it but after using a Dozuki (sp) saw I find I think about it a bit less…

I have it and I love it. The handle is beautiful. I never really liked the Japanese saws except those odd ones they have like the keyhole saws and things. But honestly I love my Veritas Saws and you can’t beat the price.

Bruce Kieffer of The WoodWorkers Guild of America recently posted a review of this saw. The review can be posted here:
