Topic tags/keywords: question jig

First post, because my wife won’t let me make furniture until the house is remodeled. I picked up a bundle of these and have enough to finish all the upper trim, doors, and windows, but not enough for the floor. Here are all the clues I have:

1. I picked them up approximately 120 of these boards at my local HfH ReStore. This suggests some kind of bulk building material dropped off by a contractor (fence pickets??).
2. They came in lengths from 4 to 4.5 feet, most of them very close to 4’. They vary in thickness from 1/2 to 9/16” and in width from 2 5/8 to 2 11/16”.
3. They don’t smell like much. Basement? Though I’ve never smelled cedar, someone told me it was kind of similar.
4. They’re rough-sawn, as pictures show. The one lighter section is freshly sanded,

Does anyone have an idea? I’m anxious to get this done and do some woodworking.

My guess if they are fence pickets is western red cedar.

Kinda straight grained for cedar, perhaps lauan?

I think you nailed it, splintergroup! After being able to search for lauan (which I never would’ve suspected because I only knew about it in plywood form), I found these 4 7/8” wide boards sold for use as door jambs (approximately double the width, which I can split in half). They look VERY similar, are a common building material (as suspected), and, even better, are still pretty dang cheap when bought new instead of at the ReStore. Thank you guys so much, I knew I could count on an answer on the forum. :)

A Menard's link if you’re curious to compare. Thanks again!
