I have no affiliation in any way with Woodworker’s Source other than having ordered from them in the past.

I received an email today that mentioned this deal:

Peru Wood Trio Pack 1/2’‘x6’‘x48’’ (3 pcs): Tigrillo, Chontaquiro, Yellowheart

Three relatively unknown S. American woods (at least I have never heard of Tigrillo and Chontaquiro – have heard of Yellowheart), for $29.00, shipping included (regularly $59).

I couldn’t buy three 6” x 48” x 1/2” thick poplar boards locally for this price!!!

I ordered the pack and it will be interesting to see what these woods look like. I’m eager to receive the package and see what I get.

That tigrillo looks a lot like Goncala Alves, a brazilian wood I think. I bought some goncala for $9/bf (4/4) for the head board I’m working on.

Those seem like a good price for the boards (regular price looks steep) but I can’t imagine what I’d build out of 4’ long 1/2” stock.

I like 1/2” stock for boxes. Sounds like a pretty decent deal.

Thanks for posting Jim. I decided to take the plunge, and with the extra $10 off for joining their mailing list, it’s a pretty good deal if the wood is as advertised.

Thought I’d bump this up to the top and see what people thought of their packs. Jim?

I received mine yesterday. I had ordered two packs, so 6 boards total. Each board was individually wrapped. Overall, I’m pleased with the wood. They were straight and flat. The Tigrillo and Chontaquiro have interesting grain patterns. Definitely some good options for box-making.
