Topic tags/keywords: 16 jointer porter

I am currently looking for a vintage 16” jointer. I would prefer a porter 300, but am open to other models. If you have any info please contact me.

Jay Fay and Egan make a 16” jointer that looks similar to the porter in design. I have a restored 12” of the pedestal design from the 1890’s and it has been a beast.

The trouble I thing you will run into is that I only see a hand full of these machines in serviceable condition pop up on CL a year. That is in Michigan. Limiting yourself to 16” only makes it even harder. I’d shoot for anything from 12”-24” and see what you find.

It all comes down to how much you are willing to search / wait and pay.

I have one I’d consider selling. I’m in Los Angeles.

Join owwm.org… there’s a buy/sell page there
visible to members only and large jointers get
listed often.

Thanks for the replies. It is a good idea to look for 12-24”, I will keep that in mind.

Loren,

I would message you, but I am rather new to the forums and don’t have 5 posts yet.

Lorne,

I am out here in Phoenix Arizona and am also considering a new “old” jointer. As stated above, 12 to 24, but ideally between 12 and 16 inches. I don’t find many for sale west of Illinois. Can you tell me about yours?

Pre-war, German made, Teichert&Sohn. Fence doesn’t
bevel but it does stay square. Clamshell cutterhead,
but with studs and nuts, not with bolts. Can run moulding
knives too.

Have your say...
