I was browsing craigslist for drum sanders and jointers and came across a post for a Delta 6” X5 jointer. Im told its in good working condition aside from some rust on tabletop and fence. being sold for $340 OBO. Does this seem like a fair deal, and what concerns should i have when looking at a used jointer like this? Please use this link to see the tool

As always any advice is appreciated.

All I can say is I paid $300 for my 8” grizzly. When it comes to jointers there are 2 kinds. Odds are they all come out of the exact factory.

There’s nothing really special about that jointer IMO which is not to say it’s not a very capable jointer. If used 6” jointers are on craigslist fairly regularly in your area I would for sure try and get that one for a lower price. Somewhere in the $300 sounds fair to me.

I’m thinking $250. $300 is top.

Thank you guys for the input…If i make an off it will be $250.00, as that’s what I feel is a fair price and I cant really get hurt @ that price. A little Elbow grease to clean up the rust and I think it can be a pretty effective device to add to my shop.

Don’t do it. I had a slightly earlier version of that machine. It sucked.

Hard to set up, and wouldn’t hold the adjustment. It was largely useless for me.

Also can be difficult to get replacement parts for Delta. I paid 180 for a used 6” Delta jointer two years ago. It was a 37-190.

Great input fellas…thanks for the heads up…looks like i will be steering clear of this deal. Ill just keep searching for one on craigslist and hope to get a deal on a 8” or save for a new one!
