I have a Porter Cable 4212 Dovetail Jig and I have the 4215 Mini attachment.

I have read all of the instructions and watched every video I can find.

I can use the 4212 with no problem but the 4215 is giving me trouble. I called Porter Cable and they said to start my bit depth at 3/8” on the depth guide. I am still unable to get a good fitting Half Blind and Through Dovetail on the mini template.

Does anyone have the 4215 that can give me some advice? If so what did you set your depth guide to when you put it together?

Thanks

Thanks. I will just get some cheap wood and go at it. PC said just set it at 3/8” and you should be good.

I have this system and the presets only get you within shouting distance. I cut two extra boards that have the exact same thickness and width to do the final tweaking of bit depth as well as the stops. Cut the practice boards extra long so you can trim off the trial joints that aren’t quite right for another try.

Hello I have the porter cable omnijig model #7116 . I don’t know if your owners Manuel tells you what router bit to use but let say for half inch blind dove tail it will say half inch blind dove bit. But if you look close at your manual it will give a part #for a bit also from porter cable . What I have found out and what porter cable rep has fail to tell you is that if you don’t use the correct bit with the angle or degrees you can have this problem . I know your saying your nuts but I went to a woodworking show and was talking with a porter cable rep that was pretty informed at least to me and he explained this to me. He also went on to say these jigs are designed to work with a bit that has a certain degrees or angle to it. He also went on to say that you can get these jigs to work with a any bit dove tail bit in this case but you going to have work at it and in the end you will have to settle with the best fit you can get. I came home and looked at my owners Manuel and in back with part list for different jigs that you can get it also list router bits part # that goes with that jig . You could say that’s just porter cable trying to sell you bits but I can tell you I don’t think that the case I really believe that when they make these jigs they are looking at bits and there size and degrees that they make for a cut .I thought I share this with you hope I help out .

I was just looking at delta/porter cable wed site and they sell a whole set of dove tail bits. And the bits are 7 degrees . I think if you get a bit that is at 7 degrees our has the specs porter cable use with this jig you should be able get great dove tail and you might not have to go off the beaten path that in owners manual for set up. I will also say that when I can afford to spend a little more I will be buy this set or the bits that are listed in back of my owners manual. I know it sound like I might work porter cable but I don’t I think of the problem I had with my jig when I bought it and fought with it to get drove tail fit and after doing a lot home work it just came down to the dove tail bit. As far as other jig like box finger joints it probably not that important . I think just matters on dove tails I hope this has help and please let me know how it work out either way thanks.
