Topic tags/keywords: pine

Good afternoon,
I am in the process of making my wife a small table to hold the cable box / DVD player. Her request is that she wants it painted, so should I use pine or popular, which would be better, thx RJ.

Poplar will take paint much better than pine.

Hello RJ, I agree with JayT, poplar would be the better of the two. Don’t forget to post picture of the finished product.

RJweb,

Mine is another vote for poplar. It sands nice and takes paint well. Resins in pine can gum up sand paper. However, poplar is a little soft. Maple would endure those occasional bangs a little better and also paints well.

Poplar, by definition, is ‘paint grade’.

You can’t paint pine knots, the sap bleeds – forever.

Making one right now for a lady, poplar is the way to go. For all the reasons already stated.
