Hey Everyone

Im going to be making a bed frame for a buddy of mine who wants it to look like this – http://www.hitchexclusives.com/images/bedroom/rustic-beds/mountaineer%20bed-med.jpg

I was planning to go to the hardwood dealer to pick up the lumber but im not that experienced with hard wood. What do you guys think would work best for this project?

Something affordable too.

Rough Cut? Pine / Oak?

Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

Well that wood is not flat sawn red oak. It is more about different coats of dye, stain and finish, to get that look, even some different woods on the planking, and scared/distressed to get the dye/stain to get deeper into the wood. It could be Ash , Hickory, Poplar , but not Oak, Walnut or Pine, Pine would not take the dye/stain and not the grain pattern. You can match/imitate many woods with dye and stain, AS LONG AS THE GRAIN PATTERN IS THE SAME!!!!!!!! That is the Key, grain pattern!!!, example, Birch can look like Cherry, Poplar like Walnut, with the dye for color, stain for depth, it is about the grain pattern. Cant make flat sawn Red Oak look like anything then Red oak just a different tone/shade.

Have your say...
