Hello guys/gals. I use a lot of spar varnish, mostly cabbots. Now years ago I did lots of research on stain varnish polly things of that nature so that I would understand the nature of the products I used. So I could make intelligent decisions on what I would use on a project, not just well this is what the boss man used. I’m interested in trying out Mckloskleys ( how ever you spell that) because ive heard good things over the years. Every can had a different color label ( all said spar varnish) no one carry’s it around here that I’ve found. So if I want pure straight up SPAR VARNISH what do I need ask for and were to go . The sights I’ve found so far don’t give a decent product description. Just not familiar with Mckloskys product line.

Mccklosky’s Man O War spar varnish is made by Valspar. The different colored cans may denote satin vs high gloss. Other wise, I’ve found no difference.
Mine comes from Wal-Mart @ 75 a gallon. It’s cheaper on line but shipping can more than eat up the savings.
It’s good stuff. It can be thinned for spraying or mixed with a BLO based oil (I use Watco) to make a wipe on finish.
