Depending on gf’s age, tastes and lifestyle:
Jewelry Box
Holder for phone, keys etc,
Recipe book holder
Coffee table

A picture frame would be nice. With a picture of the both of you in it?

ditto the jewelry box. What young lady wouldn’t want a hand made box? And just think, everytime she sees it she’ll think of you. Even if she dumps you! :)

you know what I have to agree with the jewellery box idea… even though I was going to suggest picture frame!

I had a lad make a jewellery box and I still use it even though we broke up 8-9 years ago… it’s so beautiful I can’t bear to ever get rid of it.

Some of the intarsia that I’ve seen on this site is pretty cute, if you don’t want to go down the jewelry box path.

get some special wood, and do what you do best … i see that you’ve got some bowls in your gallery … make her a set of bowls, or if you like a set of knives.

and, by the way, if you have to ask us for ideas, you are probably in trouble. i mean, really we don’t know your gf.

If you are in trouble there better be a ring in the box.

I guess it depends on how much time and work you want to invest. I like the jewelry cabinet. I built the oak one in my gallery for my GF and she was pretty excited about it.

get enough wood to make a porch swing or something along those lines… have it delivered to her place on her birthday along with the plans and a promise to build it alongside her.

i made her a penguin, lol we’re only fourteen so that kinda ruins the swing plans, recipe book holder, and the coffee table.. plus shes not really allowed to be dating.. :’( so i cant really make something toooo obvious..

the penguin i made has maple on the sides, so they look like wings (i kinda forgot their belly was white and not their wings..) with a mahogany body and i put a yellow heart beak on it, turned out nice but i didnt take pics..
and i carved a couple hearts with my dremel, very small ones btw like <1>
