Topic tags/keywords: ros sander 5 5 hole question

While sanding today my Porter Cable 333VS went belly up. This is the second Porter Cable ROS that I have had, both lasted about 3 or 4 years. The one I have is a hook and loop 5” 5 hole. In looking at the new ones they all seem to be 8 hole. The 390K and the 343K. Of course I have 4 box’s of 5 hole sand paper. I checked on line at Porter Cable thinking the pads may be interchangeable but they have different part numbers. So I called Porter Cable support and they seemed to think that the pads would be interchangeable, but didn’t sound to convincing.

Does anybody know if they are interchangeable or of any good brand ROS that are 5 hole sanders. Any help would be appreciated. Of course I am right in the middle of a project…..

The ROS sanders (dewalt) seem to have about the same life, 3 to 4 years. I just used 5 hole on the 8 hole pad. A little more sawdust was in the air, but that doesn’t bother me in the shop as much as when I’m working in someones home.

Do what Dennis suggested or take the 5hole pad off and put it on the new 8 hole sander.

I do what Dennis suggested.

Dennis, I thought about just doing that but wanted to see if there was another alternative.

Karson, I am not sure if the pad’s are interchangeable or not. I guess I will have to take the old one of and take it with me and see it the mounting holes line up or not…
