I’m a newcomer to woodworking and after alot of research and reading tool reviews here and at other sites I had decided on the new Grizzly model G1023rl. I ordered it back in March and was told that it was on backorder until May 11. I called Grizzly on May 11 to check on the status of my order and was told the back order “approximate delivery date” was pushed back to June 25!! Very frustrating!! I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my saw so I can get started on my new hobby. I called Grizzly customer service to see if they would work with me on the price of my second choice the G0690 scince they couldn’t deliver on the first choice and I’m tired of waiting. The G0690 is actually more money with slightly less in the way of features. The reason the G1023rl was my first choice was the encapsulated blade for dust collection and the single drive belt system. I’m frustrated and wondering if anyone out there has any experience in this kind of situation and could give me some tips on how to deal with Grizzly. Thanks.

No direct experience with the waiting game Steve, but it’s not unusual for launches of new products to be delayed. It’s also not unusual for items to come in sooner than the stated anticipated arrival date, but obviously that can also go either way.

Either saw would likely serve you well, and the G0690 has a good track record, while the G1023RL has none. Even though the former G1023 series of saw was well proven and well regarded, the G1023RL deviates from the design of the former G1023 by quite a bit. The G0690 actually looks more like a modified version of the former G1023 trunnion system. None of this means that the revisions to the G1023RL aren’t advantages, but they are less proven. Just food for thought while you ponder what to do…

Any dealings I have had with Grizzly have been just the opposite … top drawer responsiveness and service.

If you have a Sawmill Creek ( ) membership, you might try posting there. The owner of Grizzly (Shiraz Balolia) is on that site a good deal, and I have seen a number of postings where he has responded directlly to customer requests.

I was advised by the Grizzly folks today that now they don’t expect to receive the new G1023’s until mid July. I was really excited to get one of these but I just can’t wait any longer. I placed my order for a G0690 and hope to get it next week. Reading the reviews I’m sure I won’t regret my choice.

I decided to go with my second choice the G0690, got it a couple weeks ago and so far I’m happy. Thanks for all your input.

Hey Steve223,
I also had this TS on order at the same time and was having the same delays. I eventually took delivery of a G0690 instead because the G1023RL date was pushed even further into August 2010. Love my G0690, BUT:

Did you ever take delivery of a G1023RL?

If so, how has it worked out?
