Hello friends,

Today I had contact with my long to time LJ friend Grizzman (Bob). Bob is one of those remarkable people that can appreciate everyone’s projects and always has had positive things to say about everyone. Not only is Bob a great guy but he has had a most unique and wonderful design sense in his woodworking projects, plus his super craftsmanship ( In the past, Bob has been very active here on LJs, with lots of fun banter, including sporting some outrageous outfits, ad with this banter between myself and many other members, he makes every post lots of fun that he contributed on.
Bob has battled a back problem for years and now is restricted to his bed due to terrible back pain, robbing him of his woodworking and shop time he so dearly loved. In addition, his dear wife is suffering from debilitating health problems. Bob does not want anyone’s pity but when I asked him if he would like to hear from some of the LJ friends he said that he would like that. Bob’s sleeping schedule is irregular, so if you send him a PM (Private message) he may not be able to get back to you right away. Having been on LJ’s for several years now, I’ve seen great LJ friends and outstanding craftsman, pass away or because of physical challenges, are no longer able to do woodworking. Bob and others bring to light how fortunate we are to do be able to do what we love. It also brings to light for me, that the occasional aches and pains of a guy pushing 70, are nothing compared to many others. I have so much to be grateful for, that I can work and play in the shop when others face such enormous challenges in their lives. Please send Bob a big Hello even if you haven’t had contact with him before you can let him know how you like his projects I know he will appreciate it.

Thanks for just being you Bob!

I’ve always enjoyed Grizz’s work and also the humor he injects into his responses.

It saddens me (like it does you, Jim) to think that one day we will all have to give up this thing we love so much, called woodworking. Whether it be a simple TwobaFour project , or something more challenging like a table or even a small box, I do know that one day the aches and pains I’m beginning to have will eventually take over my body and I’ll no longer be able to “just tolerate” the pain.

I hate that anybody must endure such as this to the point of being bedridden, and at this point I can only begin to imagine how bad it will have to be for me to get there.

This week I have an appointment with a cardiologist, who I HOPE and PRAY will give my Orthopedic doc a “good to go” report so they can operate on the torn meniscus in my knee. Problem is, I haven’t seen a cardio doc in about 8 years, and because I had triple bypass back in 2004, the anesthesiologist wont put me under without the cardio doc’s ok.

My wife is in kidney failure so we deal with dialysis for her everyday, but at this point we are both still ambulatory and in pretty good spirits about our situation.

Bob, our prayers go out to you and your family in this trying time. I hope the good Lord grants you peace and solace in dealing with this. God Bless you, my Brother.

Thanks for reaching out to him A1Jim. It is sad that this problem of backs affects so many of us. I am very fortunate that even with my back problem, I am at present able to continue working on my projects. My thoughts are with you Bob.

Hey Jim,

I’ve been tuning in to LJ’s to see what’s happening. The warmer weather seems to encourage people to be away from their computers. You’ve always been a good samaritan giving support and kind words for folks on Lj’s. I even thought you had a position like Cricket when I first started as you seemed to be an official welcomer to LJ’s.

With getting older we become more vulnerable to illness as our immune system starts to shut down along with our other abilities. Hey I lost an inch in hieght and argued with the doctor they had it wrong being only 5’8” to begin with.

You were supportive when I was asking for Lj’s to contribute for Dallas Farnworth another of our LJ Buddies who had conjestive heart failure but took the time to help me out while I was in my “chain saw milling madness.” last year.

I’m still working and putting in about 3 hours or more building a modified pole barn/pergola structure to house my recent purchase of a lawn tractor as I realize every healthy day is a great one.

Your words made me realize that maybe I’m neglectful as I wrote to Bob and Skyped with him, and give him a hard time just like he did me. Hopefully it’s taken in good humor.

I believe it is good to recognized positive forces like “Grizz” so I want to tip my cap to you for all you have done!

Thanks for you comments guys , Thanks for your good points and kind words Tom but my motive is just to give some additional contact to Bob from our gang. I Think I’ve also have had gravity working on what I thought was my 6’ frame. Keep on plugging with your pole barn,be careful out there.

Grizzman, you have always been one of the most reasonable ,down to earth members here, the type of person who always give you a straight/sensible answer, I sincerely hope you get well soon and back to woodworking soon.
