I recently purchased some decorative exterior door hinges. They are 4” in size and tapered from the outside to the knuckle. They will be installed on a 6/4 quartersawn white oak door. Any tips on routing the mortises?

I would make a template and use a collar. That, or use the hinge as a pattern and scribe the outline. Rout close and chisel the rest.
