I went to a steam show at the local county fair ground and was really impressed. They had a working old sawmill and was driven by a huge steam engine. I think the engine was from the 1920s. I can not image what it took to keep these things running. It powered the sawmill to cut large oak logs into lumber with ease.

In addition to the large steam engines, there were quite a few miniature ones that people had made…what craftsmanship.

Looks like a lot of fun, I’m kind of split on wanting to see operating steam engines. On one hand they are so cool to watch running, on the other hand, one exploded at a county fair not too far away from me a while back and killed a few people.

We have a steam museum in our county, with a few running trains and a working sawmill. Very cool. The kids love it, and if I ever stop working weekends—i’d love to volunteer on the sawmill.

West Liberty, OH will have a tractor fest this coming Labour Day…..usually they have a few steamers running around. A few times, they have even set up a sawmill, as well…

Admission is free, so is parking!
