Am about to do my first set of (half blind) dovetail drawers. Using the 1:7 marker I made as my last project I find the relief area quite narrow on the side pieces – as I’ve seen them in high quality pieces. My question is is a dovetail chisel is commonly part of the tool chest? It seems like a small chisel (3/8” or smaller) with a side bevel is required to get into the triangle area to clean up what I’ve just cut out.

Or am I missing something?

No, it is not required, but you do need a small chisel, most often I use a 1/4” chisel or if I am doing London pins, I have to go to an 1/8” chisel.
