Hi,

I went into my local Ace Hdwr for bulk SS screws for a canoe restoration I’m working on. They’re not available at the local big box stores. I was surprised to see some chisel sets, mallets, card scrapers & burnishing tools, etc. Guess woodworking just hit the big leagues!

The quality only looked OK, but I never heard of them and got to wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

Two Cherries are good, no, great tools. German steel, hornbeam hooped handles on the chisels, mirror finished and ready for a final honing.

As to your needs for SS screws, visit McFeely's

Get a catalogue. It’s great reading, with more info than you could get from a book. They also have bronze fasteners that will not react to cedar etc, and are rated for full salt water exposure.

Another great hardware source on the net: McMaster-Carr with 450,000 hardware products.

I don’t own any but I’ve understood “Two Cherries” chisels to be of excellent quality. I also was surprised to find a small display like you describe in the local Ace Hardware. I thought it might have been just a local anomaly, but I guess not.

Thanks to both of you.

Doug – I’ve read many of your posts with interest. Thanks for reminding me of McFeeley’s. I’ve heard of them often and for some reason never went to their website. I’m on my way. I order on & off from McMaster-Carr, but needed the screws yesterday in this case. Another one beside Lee Valley (who only seems to ship UPS Ground) is Jamestown Distributors (who interestingly has Two Cherries chisels as a feature item on their home page.)

I just ordered the bronze screws from McFeely’s because they had square drive and Jamestown only had slotted, not even phillips.

Paul – Either we are both lucky or there’s a plot afoot.

I just ordered a nice “digging fork” from Robert Larson Company. They have high end stuff. Very good service.
