Topic tags/keywords: question resource planer

I’m brand new to the woodworking scene as a hobby and have been looking on Craigslist for planers religiously, but finding it very difficult to get reviews or ideas on what older model planers are worth these days. Can anyone lend me advice on what a Delta 22-785X 15” (3HP, 230V) Planer is worth with a motor that was just rebuilt professionally?

Opinions will vary widely on the value of it (and most everything else as well). I have one of the precursors to that model, bought new in 2002 for $1000 delivered with a mobile base. Never really had any problems with it, other than a gear box leak and it’s done yeoman’s service. I see them at all price ranges, but typically (around me) $600 seems to be the more common number. I don’t place extra value on a “professionally rebuilt” motor, and that may indicate it’s had a hard life. You might look at what a new 15” grizzly would cost before laying down too many shekels on the used Delta.
