Yesterday my order of drum sander abrasives came; they sent me all hook & loop. I have a smooth drum, with clips.

Anyone run H&L on a smooth drum? I’m in a bind, need to finish up some boards this weekend, and can’t get the proper abrasives until late next week.

My guess is that it won’t hold up. The H&L I’ve used isn’t as strong as the heavy paper stuff. Do yourself a favour and get a hook and loop conversion kit. Grizzley sells them. It will make your drum sander sing.

That’s my feeling too. Fortunately I found a couple rolls of what I needed at my local Woodcraft today… kinda funny since they told me over the phone yesterday they didn’t have anything.

I’ll investigate converting to hook and loop, doesn’t hurt to try I suppose.

Have your say...
