It a general consensus that heavier saws are more accurate and often better.
In this regard a 1.75 hp PCS Sawstop with a 30” is actually lighter than Grizzly’s G0715 hybrid and much lighter than a true cabinet saw like G1023.

Sawstop PCS175 30” fence – 367 lbs
Grizzly G0715P – 393 lbs
Grizzly G1023RL – 471 lbs.

G0715 is not by any means the most accurate saw around so how come the lighter Sawstop is ?

Taking into account the weight and the 1.75HP power should PCS175 be considered a hybrid ?

I do not think the term hybrid refers to weight but rather the way the reunions are mounted.

However, the definition is typically mis-used.

There’s really no set guidelines to define any categories, and the distinguishing areas can be pretty grey. The PCS does have cabinet mounted trunnions. The G0715P has table mounted trunnions. Both have full enclosures. Just because a saw has cab mounted trunnions and a full enclosure doesn’t mean that it’s as robust under the hood as an ICS, G1023, PM2000 or Unisaw. It’s also worth noting that listed weights aren’t always accurate, and it’s common for some to include the weight of the fence, and others not.

Extra mass is usually a good thing, but not necessarily reflective of accuracy. Accuracy boils down to arbor and bearing runout, fence adjustments, belts, pulleys, blade runout, etc….it’s a variable, but some of that can be adjusted. All good saws have “potential” for accuracy, but it can be random from the factory….what you actually end up with can be up to whoever sets up the saw.

G0771 has cabinet mounted trunnions but is less of a saw than G0715, which has table mounted trunnions.

G0715P is a middle range saw and excellent when paired with an Incra fence.
