Topic tags/keywords: hand plane shoulder plane rabbet plane wooden hand plane

Got this at the flea market for $3. I think this is a rabbet plane, but I’m not sure. It may be a shoulder plane and could be used either way. It is 9 3/4 long, 2 3/4 in height and blade is exactly 1 inch wide. There isn’t a manufacturing mark on the plane. The blade has a small alligator on it.

Sanded it a little and added a coat of BLO. The blade cleaned up and sharpened better than I expected. Plenty of blade remaining and wanted to use it as a shoulder plane. I have a 3/4 medium veritas shoulder plane. Wanted this one to use as a wider shoulder plane.

The small hole looks shop made. I don’t see where a fence was ever used on it. So it could be a shoulder plane.
Also, couldn’t find a good video showing how to set blade depth and lock it in. Nothing is working for me.
Any suggestions on a good video is appreciated.

Sorry. Posted the pictures now.

It’s a wooden rabbet plane, and the blade goes in bevel down. If you search you will find videos on them.
