Topic tags/keywords: humor question hobby spouse

My wife has been accused of being Martha Stewart in disguise. She is incredibly innovative when it comes to crafting and any sort of needlework. Though we both are computer science people by training, we seem to gravitate to hand crafts. While I’m on the building things and carving side…she is into paper crafts, needle crafts and even crafting with food….no, no macaroni and white glue…things like making bouquets out of cut fruit that look like flowers.

People routinely ask us why we do everything ourselves instead of hiring someone else…be it landscaping, painting, home reno’s, reupholstering furniture…you name it, we’ll try it. I think the answer is basically because it is something fun to do and it’s not sitting at a computer (oh the irony of my typing in a note about hobbies being an excuse to be away from a computer).

In any event, it occurred to me that maybe we’re not alone in this mentality.

So…I ask you…what does your spouse/partner do as a hobby?

BTW…nagging technically is not a hobby, though it may look that way at times. :-)

That’s a great question !!

Diana and I are working on the plans for her “crafting room,” that I’m supposed to build.

It’ll be set up for what she ALREADY does—drawing, some pottery, sewing, and quilting

... and for what she’d LIKE to do: painting, ????

Attached to that will be her yoga/pilates studio.

We’re also pretty active, so … she likes biking, hiking, skiing, jogging, rollerblading, and—with God’s grace—listening to me incessantly run my mouth ;-)

Mine is a woodworker and better than me! ...and she has a large portifolio of other things she does that Martha S. might learn from.

My future wife, while having tons of great ideas, lacks ambition. Her genes/upbringing make her very weary of attempting anything she might have a hard time with. She enjoys photography and graphic design, though she often becomes frustrated with whatever she’s working on. I do my best to encourage her, though she does not take constructive criticism well. I keep trying to push her into new directions, as I’m hoping she can find a hobby she is both good at and relaxed with (right now that hobby seems to be facebook).

My wife is an incredible water color artist but sadly she does not feel the need to paint these days. She does many different crafts well and even woodworking but quit when a kickback hit her in the solar plexus and left a one inch cut and a bruise the size of a large grapefruit. I can only imagine the pain she suffered from that. Since that time she has not touched any woodworking tools but will do some carving with my chisels. She is also a computer wiz.

MY wife is definitely a crafter. Card making is the latest addition. She is trying to clean out her yarn bin making hats and baby booties right now. She makes beautiful afghans, crocheting the patterns into it rather than sewing them on. There was a lot of oohs and ahs when she unfolded one she made for an associate that was having a baby. When she turned it around so they could see the front side, the girls went nuts ;-))

I’m a dabbler – I write, do photography, garden, crochet, some bead work, some leatherwork; I’ve made a few pottery pieces; I love making bread from scratch … and whatever looks interesting at the time. The need to create is pretty strong.

My wife is into scrapbooking. I prefer she pursue cleaning, cooking and laundry. Oh well, I guess I need to let her have some fun once in awhile too.

My wife has her own space in the shop for her tools. She does intarsia and scroll saw work in addition to ceramics, crocheting, candle-wicking, sewing and embroidery(machine), she also has a very green thumb and propigates roses and other flowers in the early spring.

my wife’s hobby is watching our 3 kids :)
other than that she likes sewing and knitting. Or as my middle child said, “practicing to be a grandma”, lol. he’s 4. She also reads quite a bit and is on facebook a lot lately.
