Topic tags/keywords: delete comments button question Now I’ve only been here about 4 months so this may have already been discussed before, but has anyone ever inquired about having a “Delete Comment” button? We can edit our comments for 60 minutes, but cannot delete them. I recently just did a double post on a topic due to internet connection issues or whatever. Now, I am not able to delete the second comment so I edited it to say it was a double post, but would rather just delete it to save time and space for those reading the thread. This could especially become a problem if the site were having issues and it was happening to multiple people in the same thread. Now is there a reason why we can’t delete our own comments? -- Matt - http://breakingboardom.wordpress.com/ |

Sounds like a great idea. -- Tom, New London, NH |

If you want to delete a comment the only way to do so is to send Martin a message and ask him to delete it. I assume that this would entail some custom programming to add this feature, which, of course, would not be free. -- Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful- Joshua Marine |

It may also leave forum topics in shambles as any comments on a process or project could lose their continuity, leaving other posts out of context. -- There's many a slip betwixt a cup and a lip.--Scott |

EXAMPLE: There was a thread going for a LONG time in “Coffee Lounge”. I had made a Constructive Coment about a possible solution to the apparent problem. Another LJ’er came back with a rather NASTY reply to my comment, aimed at me Personally, that was NOT deserved. I got a little Heated that he would do so as it had Nothing to do with the Topic. I did a Reply on that Post. During the “Preview” I felt it was NOT appropriate to say what I had said on the Post and decided it would be better done by a PM. I wanted to do exactly what is being suggested here, for a different reason and Delete my Comment but all I could do was “Edit” my comment, so I cleared it all off during “Edit” and replaced it with something like “Well. I guess we’re all entitled to our opinion.” I think, Technically, this site is Amazing the way it functions. PERHAPS a “DELETE” at the time of “Editing” might be a good idea. BUT! If it involves a lot of “Restructuring” to do so then we should leave it be. I’ll just have to learn to NOT get so “Heated” when some “(Censored)” lets me have it …LOL…. Yes! I sent him a PM. He didn’t reply. Rick -- ENJOY YOURSELVES GUYS!!! |

Scott, I can see your arguement and agree. Maybe only having the “Delete” feature for 60 minutes like the “Edit” feature would work. Yes it would take more programming most likely, which would be time, but it would save Martin time in having to go delete people’s comments since they can’t do it themselves. -- Matt - http://breakingboardom.wordpress.com/ |

I do not ever remember seeing that thread. I think not having a delete button is a good thing. Makes people think before they type. I don’t think we need a lot of retaliation posts that are able to be deleted later.
