Can anyone think of something else I could do with them as they sit other than a candle holder?

Look too soft for anything else. Maybe some coasters heavily dipped in epoxy?

That separation is due to wind shakes and it is bad when you turn them since they will fly everywhere.

I think what someone said here of coasters which you put a dark or light mixture of epoxy in the recess and put the center back in and let the epoxy squeeze out around it and make a very nice highlight.
