I just purchased a floor model lathe from hf and i’m new to turning.Were can i order a chuck and what is the best chuck for bowls.

Find the owner’s manual and see what the taper and thread is for your head and tail stock. Then you can buy any accessories that match that from the usual sources (woodcraft, peachtree, rockler, Lee Valley etc).

I am not a big turner so I will leave it to others to say what chucks etc are best.

I get lathe accessories from here….

I have this chuck and it’s a good economy valued chuck. Except I see it’s out of stock.

I have seen good deals on Craigslist. You can also use a face plate to turn bowls. Face plates are much cheaper.

If it’s the lathe I’m thinking of, I had one years ago. The only place I found a chuck was at Here is the link to the chuck I bought.

Just double check the taper and threads. It is a very popular chuck, I liked it.

If it’s the 200$+ unit it has a 1” X 8 tpi and MT2 taper

Depending on which lathe you have, you can get chucks from grizzly, too. At a reasonable price.
