got customer wants 51 post for old house railing turned they ar 5 inches in dia didnt know if cedar or another woo be better

i just turned a few things out of some aromatic cedar. it was one of the best woods I’ve ever turned. it smells very strong while turning but i was able to get a finish ready surface right off of the gouge. it cuts much better with gouges than with scrapers.

If you use SHARP tools it shouldn’t be a problem.

To directly answer your question – - If you put a piece of cedar on your lathe and turn on the lathe the cedar will, indeed, turn.
