I am refinishing the first golf club ever given to me. It was a hand-me-down from my father. It’s the driver I learned (or tried to) to play golf with. That was about 25 years ago. No telling how long he had it before that. I’ve stripped off the old paint job but want to refinish with a stain to show the beauty of the persimmon wood. Any tips on staining this old piece.

I’m thinking of giving it back to him for Christmas, totally refinished, really just to hang on the wall with some sort of engraving like “Thanks for giving me a start in something I love, woodworking…..and the frustration of golf” I’ll have to work on that some. You all are creative…give me your ideas on that too.

Thanks as always

Try getting a hold of Brian Boggs. He writes for FWW and makes these drivers. I’m sure he would share the info you need.

I sent an email to what I assume is his chair company. Don’t konw if he’ll get it. Is he a member of LumberJocks? Any idea how to contact him?

All sanded and smooth. Thinking I’ll stain with cherry with a a little walnut in there to darken it up.

Then shellac? or should I go with the poly?
